After receiving a call for service in the evening hours of Friday, September 23rd, by air traffic controllers at the Los Angeles International Airport, that a commercial airliner on approach had been struck by a green laser, LASD Air 21 was dispatched to investigate the source of the beam.

Upon arrival at approximately 10:15 P.M., the Sheriff's aircrew was also struck by a laser beam emanating from a residence in the 1700 block of West 153rd in the City of Compton.

The aircrew then informed Compton Station patrol personnel of the beam's point of origin. Patrol personnel in turn canvassed the area, made contact with a 27 year female Compton resident and detained her pending an investigation of the incident.

After sufficient evidence was gathered at the scene, she was arrested and charged with a violation of 247.5 PC, "discharging a laser at an occupied aircraft." She was booked at Century Regional Detention Facility with in lieu of a $20,000.00 bail.

Seven similar incidents around Los Angeles County in the past 12 months have led to five arrests.
