Transient starts fire in local park and burns herself extinguishing the fire (Pictures Attached)



A female adult transient was caught by surprise on December 7, 2011, Wednesday night when she woke-up to a large brush fire surrounding her in the hills of Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park.



Los Angeles County Sheriff's Parks Bureau deputies received a call at 10:00 PM regarding a possible fire in the hillside of the park. The deputies along with Los Angeles County Fire responded to the area. The Fire Department extinguished the fire which burned a small area of brush and what appeared to be a large amount of trash belonging to the victim.



The victim told the deputy that earlier she had started a small camp fire and fell asleep. When she woke up she saw the fire surrounding her and tried to extinguish it. She sustained burns to her back, arms and face as a result of trying to put out the fire.



The victim a resident of San Dimas said she has been living in the hills of the park off and on for the past two years.



The victim was transported to a local Hospital for medical treatment.



The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Parks Bureau, joined by homeless shelter outreach workers provide homeless outreach at local parks throughout the year. Offers are made for shelter, medical and mental health treatment, and other opportunities to relocate to an environment safer for both the transients and nearby community at these events.



Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park is located at 120 Via Verde, San Dimas.
