An Assault with a Deadly Weapon suspect is in custody after robbing a liquor store with a screwdriver and a pair of scissors near the 13400 Block of Valley Blvd., in the City of Industry.
The incident occurred on Sunday, January 12, 2014, at about 7:00 PM when the Suspect walked into the liquor store and demanded money from the register. A struggle later ensued in which the Suspect attempted to stab the clerk with a pair of scissors; the clerk was able to deflect the assault. After retrieving money from the register, the Suspect left the store and began to run eastbound on Valley Boulevard.
Simultaneously, Industry Sheriff's Station deputies arrived and contacted the store clerk and determined the suspect's last known direction. Deputies canvassing the area saw a suspect still running Eastbound on Valley Boulevard.
When deputies initially attempted to contact him, the suspect ran into lanes of traffic on Valley Blvd. in an attempt to evade apprehension. Deputies immediately shut down all lanes of traffic and were able to arrest the suspect.
42 year-old Suspect Tomas Olivarri, a resident of Baldwin Park, was booked at Industry Sheriff's Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Robbery, and several unrelated outstanding warrants for his arrest. He is being held in Lieu of a $156,000.00 bail.
Both robbery weapons were recovered.
