Prevent Rental Scams

Rental Scams

Here are some ways to prevent Rental Scams.

Never pay for a rental before seeing the rental property in person first.

Never deal on-line especially if it is long distance.

It is perfectly fine to look online to find leads but all rentals should be finished in person.

If the rental property has an agent's sign posted be sure to contact the agent. There have been scams where an on-line fraudster has instructed a potential renter to disregard the agents sign posted on the property.

Be careful of the information emailed to a potential landlord until after you have seen the property in person, some sensitive information could potentially put you at risk for identity theft.

Beware of overly friendly written communications, these are meant to put you at ease, remember in the end this is a business transaction.

Beware of the unbelievable deal.

Most importantly, do not feel pressured or rushed to provide your information or money in a rental transaction.
