TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO ARREST OF FIVE

05/23/2012

A traffic stop for a minor traffic violation led to the eventual arrest of a parolee and four others for Identity Theft and numerous other counterfeit crimes.

On Wednesday, May 23, 2012, a sheriff's deputy on routine patrol encountered more than just a traffic violation. During the stop, the deputy learned the driver was a parolee. Both he and his passenger were in possession of several counterfeit driver's licenses, credit cards and social security numbers that didn't belong to them. Both were arrested at the scene.

A subsequent follow-up to this vehicle encounter led to the detention of two other suspects who happened to stop their car nearby. Deputies learned that both occupants were also in possession of numerous counterfeit items. Both were arrested at the scene.

Still not satisfied that all illegal items had not been recovered, the patrol deputies investigation led them to a local motel nearby. A search of two rooms rented by the suspects revealed additional items. Seized were laptop computers, a credit card reader, and an embossing machine used to emboss credit card numbers. A female who was inside the room when deputies arrived was also arrested.

Deputies transported the five suspects to the Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff's Station where they were booked for Identity Theft, Possession of Counterfeit Official Documents, and Possession of Counterfeit Card Making Material.

Arrested were:

Brain Padilla Male/30 a resident of Pico Rivera

Danny Martinez Male 33 a resident of Whittier

Barbara Robles Female/44 a resident of Rosemead

Jennifer Kesloff Female/24 a resident of Whittier

Jacqueline Acosta Female/26 no known residence

Investigators of the Walnut / Diamond Bar Sheriff's Station are working in conjunction with investigators of the Southern California High Tech Task Force / Identity Theft Division to bring formal charges against the suspects.

Investigators presented their case to a specialized District Attorney's Team in Los Angeles to file over 19 criminal counts on Friday.
