On Monday March 19, 2012, at approximately 2045 hours, off duty Explorer Bianca Olivares was on her way home with her father when she saw a crowd of people surrounding an elderly male lying on the ground. Explorer Olivares approached the elderly male and immediately realized he was in extreme distress, and was unable to feel his pulse. In the absence of paramedics, Explorer Olivares quickly administered CPR for approximately 2-3 minutes until rescue could respond and take over. Within a short time, fire personnel arrived and began treatment. Once stabilized, the patient was transported to St. Jude Medical Center.
It was the opinion of Fire Captain Putich, as well as the attending paramedics who had responded, that the quick response by Explorer Olivares was instrumental in saving the Patient's life.
