Call 9-1-1 to Report Drunk Drivers.
As the Memorial Day weekend signals warmer weather and the beginning of summer fun, Memorial Day is also widely referred to as the beginning of the "100 most dangerous days of driving." During the 100 days following Memorial Day and ending with the Labor Day weekend, more motorists take to the roads and according to the NHTSA and the non-profit National Safety Council, a higher volume of holiday travelers, including a significantly higher number of alcohol-impaired drivers, cause nearly twice the number of automotive deaths during summer months than during the rest of the year combined.
How can I identify a drunk driver?
Some of the signs of drunk driving include: Following other vehicles to closely, swerving back and forth within a lane or across the roadway, driving in areas not designated for vehicles, stopping suddenly for no reason, driving on the wrong side of the roadway or sudden or abrupt turns.
What should I do if I see a drunk driver?
Reporting a suspected drunk driver may save you or other pedestrians and motorists from harm. If you see a suspected drunk driver, maintain a safe distance while make note of the vehicle make, model, color and license plate number. Next, make note of where you are such as the highway and cross streets as well as your direction of travel. Finally, as soon as you can safely do so, pull over and call 9-1-1. Once you have provided the information, let law enforcement do the rest.
