Celebrate the 4th of July Safely

07/04/14

As the Nation celebrates the Fourth of July with the traditions of parades, cookouts, and fireworks, the Lancaster Station would like to remind you to keep safety in mind. Each year thousands of American's are injured or killed by illegal fireworks and/or irresponsible drinking and driving. This year we challenge you to have a safety plan for you and your family. When drinking, plan ahead, and designate a sober driver. Learn the laws and ordnances regarding fireworks in your area. Clear the area around your home of all weeds and debris which could potentially be a fire hazard.

It is unlawful for any person to manufacture, give away, sell, offer for sale, solicit the sale of, possess, purchase, use, ignite, explode, fire, or otherwise discharge any fireworks within the City of Lancaster (LMC 8.44.030 Prohibition of fireworks). The Lancaster Sheriff's Station will have extra patrols to confiscate illegal fireworks and apprehend violators and drunk drivers. Don't be involved in illegal activity. It is a Misdemeanor to possess Dangerous Fireworks; however, if someone is seriously injured, killed, or severe damage is caused due to illegal use of fireworks, those responsible would be charged with a Felony.

The City of Lancaster has partnered with the Lancaster Auto Mall and the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds to celebrate the Fourth of July with a fireworks show that is sure to light up your night. All AV residents are encouraged to come out and celebrate Independence Day together at this fun-filled event.

The Fairground gates will open at 4 p.m., at which time attendees will enjoy live music and tasty food. The festivities will begin at 7 p.m., including a competition by the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Touring Pro Division in the AV Fair arena. Tickets for this event are on sale at www.avfair.com or (661) 948-6060.

The fireworks show will begin at 9:30 p.m. and is free to all. Grandstand seating, however, is only available to those who purchase a ticket for the PBR. Attendees who do not sit in the ticketed-only grandstand seating are welcome to sit in the open grass area and are encouraged to bring folding chairs, blankets and sweaters (if needed). Parking for the event is $5. Pets and alcoholic beverages are prohibited.

Be responsible, and stay safe. Report any illegal use of fireworks to your local Sheriff's Station :
