The Lifesaving Award is presented to employees of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department whose actions result in the saving or preservation of a human life that would have otherwise expired without the employee's direct involvement.
The award was presented to the following deputies from Carson Sheriff's Station:
Deputy Cameron J. Brazile
Deputy Jesus Argueta
Deputy Carlos L. Sanchez
On June 20, 2010, three vehicles traveling on the 405 freeway were involved in a horrific collision. All sustained major damage and one had burst into flames. Carson Station deputies were the first emergency personnel to arrive on scene.
As other deputies stabilized a critically injured driver and attempted to extinguish the flames, Deputies Cameron Brazile, Jesus Argueta, and Carlos Sanchez noticed a baby who had been removed from one of the vehicles. The baby was not moving and appeared unresponsive. Deputy Brazile immediately inquired about the response time of the paramedics. After discovering the paramedics would be delayed, and due to the baby's condition, Deputy Brazile decided to have the baby transported to a local hospital by radio car.
Additional Carson Station deputies blocked intersections while Deputy Argueta used his exceptional driving skills to safely transport the baby to the hospital. Deputy Sanchez assisted in escorting the baby to the pediatric emergency room. While in the emergency room, the doctor advised the deputies that the decision to immediately transport the baby saved her life.
For their actions, Deputies Brazile, Argueta, and Sanchez were presented the Lifesaving Award.
