A Good Samaritan thwarted the efforts of several juveniles as they were attempting to break into an apartment Wednesday.
On June 20, 2012, deputies from the Walnut / Diamond Bar Sheriff's Station received a call of a burglary now in the 2000 Block of Batson Avenue in Rowland Heights. Deputies arrived quickly and immediately located four male juveniles matching a caller's description. All were attempting to flee the area.
Deputies were advised by a witness he had confronted the four juveniles as they were removing a rear screen from a neighbor's apartment. When questioned, all four juveniles took off running and the witness followed for a short distance.
Deputies arrested four juveniles ranging from age 13 to 15. One was later released to a guardian while the three others were taken to Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall.
Detectives will present the case at a later time to the District Attorney's Office for the possible filing of criminal charges.
While the Sheriff's Department urges the public to immediately report crime and suspicious behavior, we also want to caution people avoid confrontations. In this case we had a good witness who felt something was wrong and questioned the activity. He did not continue to chase the subjects and relayed his information quickly to other residents who called 911.
