Attempt Suicide Cerritos

On Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 8:58 A.M., Cerritos Station deputies responded to Carmenita Road at the 91 Freeway regarding an attempt suicide. Cerritos desk received several calls regarding a female jumper on the overpass. Responding deputies witnessed a civilian holding onto a female juvenile who was climbing over the fence. The juvenile was able to climb over the fence and was holding on with her hands. Cerritos personnel, the civilian, and a member of the California Highway patrol took hold of the juvenile's wrists as she was dangling over the westbound 91 Freeway. Both directions of the 91 Freeway were temporarily shut down during the incident. They were unable to pull the juvenile back over the fence and the lifesaving efforts went on for several minutes. Ultimately, the juvenile assisted and they were able to bring her back to safety. The juvenile, thirteen-year-old resident of Cerritos, will be taken for a mental health evaluation.
