Homicides Decrease slightly in LASD area compared to last year. Overall crime increases in the first 3 months (YTD) of 2012 compared to YTD 2011. Decrease in overall crime compared to 5 years ago.

These include year to date (January-March) 2012 preliminary reported crime statistics compared to 2011 and compared to five years ago (2007). As of the end of March 2012, preliminary reported crime data shows that reported overall incidents of violent crimes (Part 1) have increased 0.82 percent, and serious property crimes reported (Part I) have increased by 6.09 percent in Sheriff's patrol areas countywide, compared to last year at this time. These numbers combine to show a 5.1 percent increase in overall Part I crimes.
In comparison, the 5 year (2012/2007) change in year to date (YTD) crime rate for March, preliminary reported crime data shows that reported overall incidents of violent crimes reported (Part 1) have decreased 25.47 percent, and serious property crimes reported (Part 1) have decreased by17.13 percent in Sheriff's patrol areas countywide, compared to a five year period. These numbers combined to show a 18.75 percent decrease in overall Part 1 crimes.
To help prevent car burglaries, PLEASE always lock your car doors and do not leave property that looks valuable in plain sight in your car and avoid parking in isolated spots.
As of the end of March 2012, preliminary reported crime data shows that criminal homicides decreased by 6.25 percent in Sheriff's patrol areas (44 homicides YTD in 2012 compared to 45 homicides YTD in 2011), and have decreased by 34.78 % (70 homicides) compared to five years ago (2007). 2011 had the lowest homicide rate (allowing for population changes) in Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department patrol areas since 1965.
Population source for crime rates per 10,000 population: 2001- 2009 population projections from the Chief Administrative Officer's (CAO) Office of Urban Research and California Department of Finance. 2011 and 2012 Year-To-Date (YTD) population source from the 2010 United States Census Population count.
Note: The East Los Angeles Station of the LASD began policing the cities of Maywood and Cudahy on July 1, 2010. This should be considered when comparing 2011/2012 crime statistics to 2007.
