City of Rosemead Appoints Lieutenant Ignacio Somoano as “Chief of Police.”



The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Temple Station and the City of Rosemead are proud to announce the appointment of Lieutenant Ignacio Somoano as Rosemead's new chief of police.

Lieutenant Somoano was officially appointed on May 14, 2013 at the city council meeting. He will serve as the city's main point of contact with the sheriff's department. Lieutenant Somoano will be directing the city's public safety operations including deputy sheriffs and civilian city personnel.

"I am very excited to have been appointed as Rosemead's Chief of Police. I'm looking forward to continuing and reinforcing the Sheriff's Department long standing relationship with the residents, community organizations and business groups in the city of Rosemead" said Lieutenant Somoano during the council meeting.

"Our intent is to strengthen Rosemead's public safety services and we are looking to be more effective in the way we deliver these services. We are confident that Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies and City of Rosemead employees will operate with a high degree of unity and commitment in protecting and serving our community," said City Manager Jeff Allred.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has provided law enforcement services to the City of Rosemead since it became incorporated in 1959.



About Lt. Ignacio Somoano:

Lt. Somoano was born in Cuba and migrated to the United States at a very young age. He is a fluent Spanish speaker. He grew up in the Los Angeles area, graduated from Warren High School and has an Associate of Arts Degree from Cerritos College in the Administration of Justice. Prior to joining the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, he worked for the Downey and Vernon Police Departments in various civilian positions.

Lt. Somoano has been with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for over 26 years. He has worked at a number of stations and various assignments. His experience include 10 years as Sergeant, 3 years as Detective, and 3 years as a patrol training officer. He has also served as a member of the Sheriff's Special Assignment Team in the City of Commerce. Lt. Somoano has a long list of awards recognizing his exemplary service.

In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, fishing, backpacking, and numerous other outdoor activities.
