United Peace Officers Against Crime Camp 2013

The primary mission of the United Peace Officers Against Crime organization (UPAC) is to provide leadership, education and mentor opportunities for at-risk kids. This program is specifically designed to enrich the young minds of our children by supplying them with the information and resources to be successful in life. UPAC was started by and continues to be operated by Deputy Sheriffs who strive to make our communities safe by working with our youth in a constructive way and to keep them out of the criminal justice system.

For the last 6 years, Deputy's from Twin Towers Correctional Facility traveled to Big Bear, where they spent a week long mentoring our at risk youth. The program offers many fun filled activities such as Archery, Kayaking, Boat rides in the lake, Nature Hikes, Bike riding, and many more. At night, a campfire is held where kids and counselors can talk about current issues that are currently hurting the kids at home.

You're probably wondering "Why is the camp in the mountains?" and "What does this do to help at risk youth?"

As many of you can imagine, most of the kids in our program come from underprivileged homes. Many of the kids are in group homes, or have foster parents. These kids live in areas in LA County that are filled with crime, gangs, and bad decisions. As members of this program, our Deputies show these kids that there is more to life than the street. There are many success stories within the program, and many times children who grew up in the program will return as counselors to show the new children that in life, you always have a choice of whether to do right or wrong.
