Information Detail
California Law provides a process to allow parents of a newborn infant up to three days old, to safely give up the child. This process is completely confidential and will protect the parents from criminal liability and prosecution.
As newborn infants are unable to care for themselves, they will likely be injured or worse if left on their own. This law allows viable options for parents unable or unwilling to care for a child.
In Los Angeles County, key points of the law require that the parents or guardians of the child must surrender the child to any employee at any hospital or fire station. The child must not have been abused or neglected, and must be given up before three days of age.
