Three people were found dead Monday, August 2, 2016 in the wreckage of a white pickup truck down a hill from a mountain highway north of Los Angeles.
The discovery came, when Los Angeles County Sheriff's Reserve Deputy Janet Henderson and volunteer Steve Goldsworthy spotted skid marks in the roadway just after 5pm on August 2, 2016, leading them to a pickup truck that appeared to have fallen off the side of the road. The severely damaged white pickup truck could be seen at the bottom of the hill.
The three missing teenagers, all from Fontana, had left on Saturday and told family members they were going hiking in the Angeles National Forest, possibly near Mt. Wilson, Fontana police said in a statement. They would have taken the Angeles Crest Highway to get to Mt. Wilson. The victims are two men and a woman: 19-year-old Daniel Gamboa, 18-year-old Kasey Vance and 17-year-old Samantha Ornelas.
Montrose Search and Rescue along with Emergency Services Detail, additional law enforcement personnel, Reserves and Volunteers all responded to the scene in a joint effort to recover the victims from the wreckage.

Reserve Deputy Sheriffs supplement the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's law enforcement staffing. Like full-time Sheriff's Deputies, Reserve Deputies are professionally trained and duly sworn law enforcement personnel. Since Reserve Deputies have the same powers of arrest as full-time deputies they are required by law to meet the same hiring, background, medical and psychological standards as full-time deputies.
Uniform Reserves are assigned to one of the many Sheriff's Department patrol stations or units and perform general law enforcement duties, including crime prevention, investigation, responding to calls, traffic control, and enforcement of laws.
