Special Problems Team

The East Los Angeles Station Special Problems Team has had a busy year so far. Since the beginning of the year, this team of 5 Deputies and 1 Sergeant have made over 500 arrests. The purpose of this team is to concentrate on community related problems. This includes street racing, illegal vending, and suspected criminal activity that requires more attention than our regular patrol units can provide.



The most noticeable impact of the team has been with the illegal food vendors. There are those that believe enforcing the vending laws are wrong because these folks are just trying to make a living. This cannot be farther from the truth. Many of them can make more than $2,000 a day. Other than the obvious economic effects on the local businesses, the major problem that these vendors cause is the health risk. These vendors typically have no sanitary conditions when preparing, storing or serving their food.
