East Los Angeles Station has become a leader in bringing the principles of Community Oriented Policing to our communities. The station's crime prevention unit and service area deputies and sergeants have been very active in organizing and promoting neighborhood watch programs. Neighborhood watch programs are one of the most effective ways to prevent crime. The program establishes connections among residents, can reduce neighborhood crime and creates a partnership between law enforcement and the community.

Neighborhood Watch groups are an extra set of eyes and ears for reporting crime and any resident can join a neighborhood watch program. Members can learn how to make their homes more secure, watch out for each other and report suspicious activities to the Sheriff's Department. Anyone can form a Neighborhood watch group. Popular sites are a neighborhood street, mobile home park, apartment complex, community recreation center, church or park. Ideally, block captains can open their homes to neighborhood meetings. Neighborhood Watch groups are extra set of eyes and ears for reporting crime, helping neighbors, and serves as forum that addresses community needs and concerns.
