During the last few months, we have had a Community Academy in which 11 community members graduated after a 10 week course. During the course, the members learned about various aspects of our Department including our Detective division, K-9 division, officer involved shootings, a tour of a jail facility and much more. The Community Academy is a great way for people to learn about the policing services in their neighborhood. It offers a different perspective and actual insight as to how and why we handle calls for service in the manner which we do. If you have ever wondered why and/or how the Sheriff's Department does things in certain ways, this is the program for you! The next academy will be held in mid-August of 2016.
