According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), accidents in motor vehicles are the leading cause of death in the U.S. among people aged 16 to 19, which is also the primary age group of street racers. National statistics indicate that for every 1,000 people in street racing, 49 are injured or killed.
Street racing is a dangerous and illegal activity. It is not only hazardous to the individuals racing and its spectators but it is extremely dangerous for motorists and pedestrians on the roadway. In addition, street racing can wreak havoc on residential areas due to the noise, littering and loitering.
Street racing (of any kind of motorized vehicle) on a public road is illegal and will not be tolerated in the city of Palmdale or the County of Los Angeles. Illegal racing encompasses any racing activity not properly sanctioned or allowed by law.
Any person who violates California Vehicle Code (CVC) 23109.2 will be arrested, driver's license suspended and their vehicle impounded for 30 days. Furthermore, the CVC permits law enforcement to cite spectators.
If you witness street racing call your local call your local police or sheriff station.
