07/20/2017

The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department has a strong supportive civilian volunteer program. The Volunteers On Patrol, or VOPS, collectively contribute over 450,993 hours a year. Volunteers may be used in various other assignments, including but not limited to the front reception desk, clerical functions, traffic control and Kid Print. They are required to pass a background check and an abbreviated academy. After the academy, they are assigned to a training officer and are asked to contribute 16 hours a month. They are also required to attend a monthly meeting.
