Israeli Police Station Commanders and NGO Representatives Connect With LASD

In November of 2012, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was visited by a 23-member delegation of Israeli Police Station Commanders and Abraham Fund Initiative representatives. The Abraham Fund Initiatives is a non-governmental organization seeking to enhance coexistence and equality among Jews and Arabs in Israel. As a whole, the delegation was focused on the LASD's work in Community Policing and Public Trust Policing.

To that end, the delegation met with Sheriff Baca, visited West Hollywood Sheriff's Station, learned about the uses of social media in policing, toured several of the LA County Jail Facilities, and shared innovating policing practices with LASD's Muslim Community Affairs Unit. The delegation was accompanied by Brigadier General and Police Attach Menache Arviv of the Embassy of Israel in Washington, D.C.

During the course of their visit, many lively discussions were had and many interesting experiences were shared. The visiting delegation was keen to implement many of LASD's community policing practices in their home country. Likewise, the LASD gained much insight into the challenges and successes of policing in Israel.
