These include year-to-date (YTD) March 2014 preliminary reported crime statistics compared to 2013 and compared to five years ago (2009). Reported crimes for each sheriff's station and contract city include homicides, robberies, burglaries, etc. To review the statistics, open the file, right click with your computer mouse and use the search engine:

As of the end of March 2014, preliminary reported crime data shows that overall incidents of violent crimes have decreased 0.75% and property crimes have decreased by 12.77% in Sheriff's patrol areas countywide, compared to last year at this time. These numbers combine to show a 10.88% decrease in overall Part I crimes.

In comparison, the preliminary YTD crime data for March shows that overall incidents of violent crimes have decreased by 23.98% and property crimes have decreased by 12.72% in Sheriff's patrol areas countywide, compared to five years ago (2014/2009). These numbers combined to show a 14.88% decrease in overall Part 1 crimes.

As of the end of March 2014, preliminary reported crime data shows that criminal homicides decreased by 8.33% in Sheriff's patrol areas compared to March of 2013 (33 YTD in 2014 while there were 36 YTD in 2013), and have decreased by 35.29% compared to five years ago (52 YTD in 2009).

Note: The LASD East Los Angeles Station has policed the unincorporated area of East Los Angeles and the city of Commerce for many years. Beginning July 1, 2010, East Los Angeles Station added the policing of the cities of Maywood and Cudahy. This should be considered when comparing 2013/2014 crime statistics to 2009.
