Sheriff John L. Scott Presents the “Public Response Dispatcher of the Year” Award

Since 1991, Congress passed a formal proclamation to annually honor public safety dispatchers in the month of April as "National Telecommunicators Week." During this week, telecommunicators throughout the nation are recognized for their outstanding efforts and devotion to the communities they serve.

Many times public safety telecommunicators are the first line of assistance when the community calls into their dispatch. Although they are rarely seen and heard by the public, dispatchers are the "behind the scenes" link between those in need and those that can help. As a result, one week every year, we celebrate and honor our Department's Dispatchers by recognizing their contributions to helping keep our country safe.

On Wednesday, April 16, 2014, in celebration of this event, Sheriff John L. Scott recognized the dedicated service of Public Safety Dispatchers and presented this year's "Public Response Dispatcher of the Year," award to Kristine Swain. The Department's tradition of recognizing one Public Safety Dispatcher each year started in 1986. This year's recipient, Kristine Swain, started her career as a dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department in 1998 and has been dispatching ever since. She also became a Reserve Deputy Sheriff assigned to Industry Station in 2003. Communications and Fleet Management Bureau Captain Dave Silversparre said, "For 35 years, I have been proud to work alongside public dispatchers at patrol stations and now at the Sheriff's Communication Center. I can attest to their fantastic commitment and dedication to ensuring the safety of the community and our Department's field personnel, and we are proud to recognize Kristine Swain this year."
