Newhall: Zone 6 Update - Public Safety and Crime Prevention Information

Snapshot for the weeks of 05/28/2012 through 06/10/2012

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station

Crime Prevention Unit

As your Newhall area zone leader, I strive to continue to keep the residents who live and work in the Newhall area up to date on the latest crime trends, along with a general crime assessment overview numerous times throughout the month. I am always available whether it is by telephone, email, our station website, or via social media. It is my goal to assist in reducing the crime rate in Newhall, and improving overall quality of life issues.

Now on to the latest crime trends in zone 6 (Newhall)

During the late evening hours on 05/27/2012 a commercial burglary occurred at a well-known restaurant located at the 24400 block of Walnut Street. Approximately three hundred dollars US currency was stolen. Between 05/28/2012 and 06/10/2012 the Newhall area also saw three additional commercial burglaries all taking place in the late evening hours.

The Newhall area continues to face theft related challenges. I have reviewed five vehicle burglaries that occurred between 05/28/2012 and 06/10/2012. Most of these vehicle burglaries occurred in the late evening hours. Typically the suspect will look through the vehicle's windows and confirm there are valuables inside the vehicle. The suspect will then smash a window, grab the valuables, and immediately flee the area. Trends indicate many of these burglaries involve vehicles parked on Valle Del Oro and Newhall Avenue. As a reminder, if you must leave valuables inside your vehicle, please keep them locked in your trunk and out of view.

Deputies working in the Newhall area are continuing to be proactive in combating graffiti. We have identified the most prolific taggers (aka graffiti vandals) in the Newhall area, and are working diligently to arrest the suspects who cause vandalism damage to others property. To report graffiti call (661)-25-CLEAN/ (661)-252-5326.

Remember, by continuing to work together we will send a "not in Santa Clarita" message.
