The Santa Clarita Search and Rescue team is made up of highly trained individuals from all walks of life. Their backgrounds range from school teachers to contractors, from film directors to rocket scientists. Despite demanding day jobs, these team members form a cohesive unit which can respond to an emergency at a moment's notice.
Today, October 28, 2012, the Search and Rescue team was helping out with the haunted jailhouse fundraiser by teaching children about rescues by letting them glide down a short zip-line, along with demonstrating some of the most common gear used during a rescue to the public. At approximately 1:15pm the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriffs Station Search and Rescue team received an emergency call for service regarding a stranded hiker. The team quickly decided how many members would deploy to Towsley Canyon and how many members would remain at the haunted jailhouse event.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriffs station Search and Rescue, along with Los Angeles County Fire Department quickly responded and rescued a 54-year-old female hiker from the narrows portion of Towsley Canyon. The hiker was suffering from heat exhaustion and dehydration. The hiker was airlifted by a Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter and brought to a safe landing zone near The Old Road, where she was medically checked out by Search and Rescue team members, and fire department paramedics. The hiker was released to her family.
