Residential Burglary Suspects In Custody

On Monday, May 6, 2013, at 2:45 PM, Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff's Station personnel located a dark colored Mercedes sedan which was possibly involved in a residential burglary in the city of Pomona, and a residential burglary in Diamond Bar. They located the Mercedes leaving the area about 30 minutes after a burglary in Diamond Bar.

When deputies tried to contact the suspects in the Mercedes, the Mercedes sped off and a pursuit was initiated. The suspect vehicle reached speeds in excess of 100 mph on the southbound 57 freeway near Brea Canyon Road. Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff's Station cancelled the pursuit due to the speed reaching 100 mph and the danger the suspects posed to the public. After a short period of time, the Mercedes collided with a tractor trailer in the city of Brea. A Sheriff's Department Air Unit saw the suspect vehicle leaving the scene of the collision and deputies were allowed to respond Code-3 to the Brea location believing the suspects would shortly abandon their vehicle. The suspects abandoned the Mercedes and fled on foot into a Brea residential neighborhood. A perimeter was immediately set up with the assistance of Brea, Fullerton and La Habra Police Departments. A search for three suspects began with Sheriff's Department K-9 units. Shortly after the search began, the three suspects were located. All three suspects were arrested and positively identified by a victim of one of the burglaries.

Arovista Elementary School in the city of Brea was placed on lock-down during the search operation. The students and faculty were sheltered in place for about 2 hours while deputies searched for the suspects.

Walnut/Diamond Bar Deputies recovered stolen property that was inside the Mercedes and thrown from the car. It is believed the suspects may have committed as many as three burglaries today. At this time, the three suspects, although in custody, have not been positively identified.
