Durfee Elementary Burglary Suspect Detained

On April 10, 2013, Pico Rivera Sheriff's Station deputies responded to a burglary alarm call at Durfee Elementary School, located at 4220 Durfee Avenue in Pico Rivera. The deputies subsequently detained Suspect Steven Jerome Bodnard at the location. Suspect Bodnard had removed copper tubing from the roof of one school building and destroyed an electrical panel in an effort to access additional copper wiring. Suspect Bodnard was arrested for vandalism, burglary and possession of burglary tools. Suspect Bodnard confessed to the theft in this case and an additional burglary and vandalism that occurred in March at Rio Vista Elementary School. Copper materials were stolen in both cases .

Bodnard was charged with two additional counts of vandalism and grand theft. On April 30, 2013, Bodnard pled guilty in Whittier Court to all charges and is now serving a 16-month sentence.
