FOOD SERVICES UNIT
The MISSION of the Food Services Unit of the Los Angeles
County Sheriff's Department is to provide quality meals for
inmates and staff in accordance with government regulations
for proper food preparation and required daily nutritional needs.
The Food Services Unit shall strive to accomplish its mission
by maintaining high standards of quality food procurement,
planning, preparation, service, storage, and sanitation.
Our Mission is enhanced through in-service training which
addresses guidelines of safe food handling and work
The Food Services Unit continues to strive to be the leader in the correctional food industry. We produce over 76,214 meals each day and provide 2,710 meals daily to the 22 patrol stations throughout Los Angeles County. We have one cafeteria that sells food to employees and six kitchens throughout Los Angeles County located at the various jail facilities run by a staff of approximately 263. We also prepare meals for 27 contract police departments. Food Services is steadily growing into a vast industry of pre-portioned meals and special events. As part of the Sheriff's vision, the unit has embraced innovative expansion.
A full service Cook and Chill operation produces 2,500 meals that are manufactured and delivered to the Department's 48 patrol station jails as well as our 27 contractual municipality jails. On a yearly basis the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department serves: 14,000.000 cartons of milk, 6,500.00 cartons of orange juice, 585,000 pounds of peanut butter, 42,000 slices of bread, 65,000 pounds of American cheese, 486,730 pounds of chicken and 912,500 pounds of lunch meat.
The ongoing goals of the Food Services Unit consist of:
Nutritional Services Detail - Developed new mainline menu that is more heart healthy, nutritious, lower sodium, and zero trans fat
Compliance/Inspectional Detail - inspecting jail kitchens on an yearly basis

⦁ School Lunch Program - LACOE program sponsored by Century Station
⦁ CFSM class - 23 managers and supervisors graduated
⦁ C-BEEP Dietetic Intern program with CSULA and DHR
⦁ Food Safety training - ongoing training
⦁ Community-Based Programs - culinary arts benefitting public and staff
Food Services has people with diverse experiences, backgrounds and talents that know how to express gratitude and show it in their food creations.
The Food Services Unit was the recipient of two NACO Achievement Awards in 2007 for the Station Feeding Program and in 2012 for the Contracts Jail Feeding Program.
