Sheriff Jim McDonnell[1]Message from the SheriffThe Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department developed the Vital Intervention and Directional Alternatives (VIDA) Program to help at-risk youth and their families deal with delinquent behavior, while providing an alternative to incarceration and the stigmatization of becoming a “part of the system.” Designed for non-violent, youth between the ages of 11-171/2, VIDA is facilitated by deputies, who partner with community-based organizations and academic leaders to identify needs and provide specifically tailored rehabilitative services, while at the same time holding offenders accountable for their actions. Through a comprehensive, sixteen-week, academy-style approach, the Sheriff’s Department takes a leadership role in utilizing innovative, evidence-based intervention practices, to redirect youth toward positive opportunities and long-term success. Additionally, parenting classes, along with individual and group counseling sessions, help improve relationships at home and provide guidance regarding substance abuse, peer influences, and academic achievement. As your Sheriff, I look forward to helping the youth of Los Angeles County work toward healthy, balanced, and productive futures. Jim McDonnell, Sheriff Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department
