Deputy Sheriff renders CPR, saving babies life

04-05-2013

On April 5, 2013, deputies from Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station responded to a 9-1-1 call of a one-year old baby not breathing on Oakwood Avenue, in the city of La Canada Flintridge. The deputies arrived at the home less than one minute later, where they found a child lying on the living room floor chocking and nonresponsive. Deputies immediately began Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) by clearing the child's mouth of any obstructions, but the child remained unresponsive and unable to breath. Deputies continued their efforts by turning the child over and striking him several times on the back, which seemed to have cleared the obstruction. The child coughed and shortly thereafter began to cry. The child was transported to a local hospital for further observation, and is expected to make a full recovery.
