Parks Bureau Host 3rd Annual Basketball Challenge

Parks Bureau Host 3rd Annual Basketball Challenge

130 children, ages 7-14, participated in this year's 3rd Annual Basketball Challenge hosted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Parks Bureau and the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation. The participants competed in four skills competitions and were given a thirty minute basketball clinic given by Gary Thomas, President of the Antelope Valley Hoya's Travel League. First, second and third place trophies were awarded in each division. The participants were each given a t-shirt and treated to pizza, hot dogs, sandwiches, chips, cookies and sno-cones. There were many raffle prizes that were given to those lucky enough to have their number drawn.

Detective Janice Banks, who has coordinated this event since its inception in 2010, said that this event only happens with the assistance of the community. Contributors such as A-Plus Garage Doors, Coca-Cola Distributors and Lamar Advertising and many other local businesses make this event possible.

Many parents commented on the great time they and their children had and how they're looking forward to participating next year.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Departments Parks Bureau is dedicated to providing a safe and drug free environment at all Los Angeles County Parks.
