Parks Bureau Deputies Arrest Knife Wielding Man at Cinco de Mayo Festival



Following the Cinco de Mayo Festival at Whittier Narrows Park in South El Monte, two people were arrested in the attempt stabbing of a 28 year-old male. The Festival had ended and people were heading to the parking lot to leave when a confrontation between two males occurred. Witnesses say that Gonzalo Hernandez, Male 25 years-of-age got into an argument with the victim when he produced a knife and attempted to stab him. Sheriff's personnel who were working the event responded within seconds and separated the two men. Esmeralda Cardenas, Female, 31 years-of-age, girlfriend of Mr. Hernandez attempted to conceal the knife from the deputies who were investigating the incident.



Mr. Hernandez was placed under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon and is being held in lieu of $30,000.00 bail. Ms. Cardenas was arrested for being an accessory to a crime and is being held in lieu of $20,000.00 bail. Both are residents of El Monte and were booked at Temple Sheriff Station.
