On June 8, 2013 deputies and police explorers from Crescenta Valley Station attended the annual Special Olympic Summer Games held at Cal State Long Beach.
The deputies and explorers proudly showed their support and attended the competitions, along with officers from different law enforcement agencies and military personnel, to witness true feats of extraordinary as Special Olympics athletes from throughout Southern California competed. More than 1,100 athletes from throughout Southern California showcased their determination, courage, and skills.
Law Enforcement Torch Run Director Lieutenant Kimberly Unland (a former deputy from Crescenta Valley Station) encouraged fellow law enforcement partners in welcoming these athletes onto the field and awarding them with their well-earned medals. The Torch run, along with the "Tip a Cop" program, is put on by Law Enforcement personnel throughout Southern California. These Law Enforcement fund raisers, put on throughout the year, were able to raise over $1.3 Million dollars that were donated at the Special Olympics Summer Games!
