On June 15, 2013, East Los Angeles Station held a Gift for Guns program at Belvedere Park. This event allowed citizens to surrender firearms to the Sheriff's Department and, in return, they received a redeemable gift certificate to Target or Ralph's Supermarket. The gift cards we purchased from Narcotics forfeiture funds. We received approximately 152 guns. We collected several assault rifles, handguns, shotguns, and standard rifles. People of all age groups were there to turn in firearms because either they had no use for them, or feared they could be stolen and used in violent crimes.
All in all, it was a very successful event. East Los Angeles Station would like to thank all the citizens who turned in the firearms. In addition, special thanks to the station volunteers and explorers willing to give up their Saturday to assist with this special event.
