April 18 & 19, 2012
On April 18, 2012, East Los Angeles Sheriff's Station personnel along with Garfield High School, East LA CHP, LA County Fire Station #3, East LA Courthouse, East LA Doctors Hospital, Calvary Cemetery, and Office of Traffic & Safety staged the "Every 15 Minute Program" for the 11th & 12th grade students at Garfield High School. This program is designed as an educational experience that reminds us all of the dangers associated with driving while impaired. A traffic collision was staged and the participants (12 students) were taken through the arrest process, court hearing, hospital emergency room, and funeral.
On April 19, 2012 an assembly was held at the Garfield High School Gym. Participants of the program provided first-hand testimony of their experience to family and peers
