Mona Park YAL Kids Take Second in “Kids Got Talent” Competition in West Hollywood

Children from the Mona Park (2291 East 121 Street, Compton) Sheriff's Youth Activities League (YAL) participated in the "Kids Got Talent" competition at Plummer Park (7377 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, 90046) on Saturday, May 4, 2013, and won Second Place. The event was a talent show where kids showed off their skills in singing, dancing, acting, and artwork. Three judges made the tough decisions on who was to take the top three prizes; and with all of the talent on display, it wasn't easy. Parks Bureau Deputy Karen Velasquez who is in charge of the Mona Park YAL group brought in Acting Coach Katherine Haber to help in their presentation. They decided to do a short play titled "I'm Being Bullied" to depict the realities of bulling and how to deal with it. Their message hit home with the judges and the audience winning them the $500.00 Second Place Prize. The "Pink Diamonds" dance team from another Compton YAL took First Place and the $750.00. Dylan Ever from the West Hollywood YAL won Third Place and the $250.00 Prize by playing piano and singing. All the groups involved did a fantastic job and should be proud of their performances.
