Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sergeant Honored at Lifesaving Awards Ceremony for saving the life of a 23 month old child

On March 13, 2013, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Park Bureau was in a "Buca di Beppo" restaurant, in Brandon, Florida, as part of the North American Mounted Unit Commanders Association seminar.

While in the restaurant, Sergeant Haertsch observed a 23 month old child choking. The sergeant rushed to assist and quickly took the appropriate steps to dislodge the breathing obstruction. The child began to breathe normally and the family was overwhelmed with joy.

For Sergeant Haertsch actions, he was presented the Lifesaving Award.

The Parks Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department polices 177 county parks, golf courses and special event venues throughout Los Angeles County.
