L.A. County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky; Congressman Tony Cardenas; Department of Parks and Recreation Chief Deputy Director John Wicker; Department of Public Works Deputy Director Shari Afshari; El Cariso Park Advisory Board member Cheri Blose; and Shane's Inspiration Founder/CEO Tiffany Harris were on hand for the ceremonial groundbreaking at El Cariso Park in Sylmar. Supervisor Yaroslavsky thanked everyone who assisted in the process for their hard work and dedication. He spoke of the difficulties in making this day happen but felt the thought of the children enjoying the park someday made it all worthwhile. .

The ceremony was held to showcase the more than $13 million in improvements at El Cariso Park. The improvements will include new state-of-the-art Universally Accessible Playground, with sensory rich play structures. A full size, artificial turf soccer/football field and smaller practice field will be constructed along with concession stands and restrooms. Further improvements include new handball courts, ADA accessible pathways, restrooms, picnic shelters and lighting.

El Cariso Park offers a host of recreational and sports facilities for the surrounding community, including a beautiful gymnasium and community building, 18-hole golf course, softball fields, baseball diamond, basketball and tennis courts, picnic areas and swimming pool.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Departments Parks Bureau is dedicated to providing a safe and drug free environment at all Los Angeles County Parks.
