Suspicious Package Prompts Closure of Hospital Entrance

On October 1, 2013 at 8:25 AM, while patrolling the exterior of the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, deputies discovered a suspicious suitcase that had been padlocked to the railing outside of the North Entrance of the building. Deputies immediately secured the area and closed the North entrance to the hospital. While County Services Bureau K-9 deputies were responding to conduct a check of the package, deputies initiated a search of the hospital for the possible owner. Prior to the arrival of the K-9 units, the owner was located inside of the hospital and responded to remove the suitcase. The closure of the North entrance lasted approximately fifteen minutes and no medical services were impacted.
