On Tuesday December 24, 2013, Sheriff's personnel participated in "Operation Santa 2013" a United States Postal Service program which started in 1912. Hundreds of thousands of letters addressed to Santa are received each year at the post office by children in the United States. Each local branch allows individuals to read the letters and answer them on behalf of Santa. This year Sheriff's personnel at LAC+USC answered several letters sending Christmas presents to those children. One letter which was read so much moved personnel that not only did they answer the letter, but they wanted to make a special delivery. They loaded up the sleigh (Patrol Car), and made their way to their house. The family was home and excited to see all the toys, clothes and gift cards that Santa sent via the Sheriff's Department.
All of the gifts were provided by Sheriff personnel and their families assigned to LAC+USC Medical Center.
