Chandler Tactical Explorer Competition 2014

01-20-14

Over the Martin Luther King Jr Holiday weekend, the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station Explorers participated in the 2014 Chandler Tactical Competition which was hosted by the Chandler Police Department Explorers. There were fifty-eight posts, and over one thousand explorers who participated in events, such as; pistol shoot, Hogan's Alley, Downed Officer, Crisis Negotiations, Hostage Rescue, Tubular Assault, Swat Fitness Challenge, Laser Tag, and Marijuana Field Raid.

Out of these scenarios the Crescenta Valley Explorers placed first in Officer Ambush, third in Hostage Rescue and Laser Tag.

There were three Los Angeles County Sheriff's Station Explorer Posts represented, Crescenta Valley, Palmdale, and Industry. All three teams received trophies in more than one scenario.

The Crescenta Valley Explorers are a dedicated group of young individuals who train every Monday in preparation for their competitions. Their training this year has paid off with three trophies in the first competition of the year.

The explorers are trained by Sheriff's Department personnel along with a civilian advisor, Steven Cronkhite. The explorers do ride-a-longs, assist the station with events such as Open House, Food and Toy Drive, Fiesta Days Run and Parade, and Run for the Hungry.

Since its inception in 1969, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Law Enforcement Explorer Program has created new inroads of understanding between youth, law enforcement, and the community.

If you are interested and are between the ages of 14-21, please contact your local Sheriff's Station for more information on the Explorer Program.

If you are interested in joining the Crescenta Valley Explorer Post, please contact the Explorer Advisor at 818-248-3464.
