Erik Walton (Coordinator, Security Services, Department of Mental Health), requested the Sheriff's Department's help with numerous vandalisms at the Edelman Westside Department of Mental Health building located at 11080 West Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles. Detective Robbie Anderson was advised that there had been several vandalisms to the tiled front entryway. Detective Anderson noticed there were similarities in the modus operandi (M.O.) of the vandalisms. At the request of Detective Anderson and with the cooperation and assistance of Department of Mental Health employees, surveillance video of the entryway was put in place and ready to capture any suspicious activity. Needless to say, the suspect did in fact return and was captured on surveillance video committing eight additional vandalisms. The suspect was ultimately identified as one of the patients of Edelman Westside Department of Mental Health. The suspect was subsequently arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department for a high dollar arson prior to his identification in the vandalisms. The vandalism case was submitted to the District Attorney's office and two felony counts of vandalism were filed due to the outstanding work done by Detective Anderson. In all there were twelve vandalism cases cleared. The suspect is in custody awaiting trial on the arson and the vandalisms.
