Palmdale Deputies Arrest Juvenile for Smashing and Burglarizing Store Fronts

5-23-12

Palmdale Deputies took a 15 year old juvenile into custody Wednesday morning after he attempted to hide from authorities in a vacant home. The juvenile fled into the vacant home after smashing the front windows of two businesses and burglarizing a cellular phone store.

Deputies responded to 3025 East Avenue S, in the City of Palmdale after they received an audible alarm call around 3:30 AM. The alarm company indicated they were able to view the suspect on surveillance video inside the store stealing display cell phones.

When deputies arrived, they saw the juvenile fleeing from behind the shopping center and running west across 30th Street East, into a nearby neighborhood. Sheriff's units on scene quickly established a containment and located the juvenile inside a vacant home pretending to be asleep. In the juvenile's possession were the stolen display cell phones from the one of the burglarized stores.

Through further investigation deputies determined the juvenile used a large piece of concrete and an ashtray barrel to smash several windows at the businesses in the shopping center. He in one instance, shattered the window of a convenience store, but was unable to gain entry into the store due to there being steel bars along the door. The juvenile continued to throw the items at numerous store windows until shattering the front door of the cellular phone company. He then made entry into the store and began grabbing the display phones from inside the store. It was then that deputies arrived on scene and the juvenile attempted to flee.

The juvenile was transported to the Palmdale Sheriff Station where he was detained for Burglary and Vandalism charges. The ongoing investigation will be handled by the Palmdale Station Detective Bureau.
