Parks Bureau & California State Parks Join Forces in ATV Instruction

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Parks Bureau and the California State Parks Off-Highway Division will work together in the Off-Highway Police Activities League (OHPAL) to teach local youth how to ride All-Terrain Vehicles (ATV's). The program has been in existence for approximately 17 years, but has been inactive due to staffing shortages. To revive the program, State Parks has requested Parks Bureau's assistance.

The goal is to host an OHPAL class semi-monthly for those youths involved in the Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation programs and the Sheriff's Department Youth Activities League (YAL). The participating teenagers must be between the ages of 12-17 years old. The training will be held at the California State Park's Hungry Valley Off-Highway Vehicle Park.

To help offset the cost connected with this program Parks Bureau is applying for a Grant through the State of California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division (OHMVR). Anyone with questions or concerns regarding this program or the application for the Grant should contact OHMVR at www.ohv.parks.ca.gov or Parks Bureau at (323) 845-0070.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Parks Bureau is dedicated to providing a safe and drug free environment at all Los Angeles County Parks.
