Parks Bureau Conducts Sex Registrant Compliance Checks near Ladera Park
On June 19, 2014, members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Parks Bureau Detective Unit conducted a sex registrant compliance operation near Ladera (6027 Ladera Park Ave, Los Angeles) and Monteith Parks (4616 S. Mullen Ave., Los Angeles), located in the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County near Marina Del Rey. This operation was part of an ongoing effort to ensure a safety zone around Los Angeles County Parks, ensuring they are free of potential lewd conduct crimes. The operation focused on persons currently registered as sex offenders, or on probation for a sex offense, and reside near the County parks.
Ten locations were identified and sex offenders at five of the ten locations were contacted. Four of the registered sex offenders were not home, however, it was verified they did in fact live at the locations. One check revealed the sex offender moved from his residence and failed to properly update his address of record as required. The failure to update is a violation of his probation conditions and a crime report was completed pending submission to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for filing consideration.
All other sex offenders were found to be in compliance with their sex registrant requirements. Although no arrests were made, the compliance checks prove to be effective in insuring all the sex offenders comply with the terms and conditions of their probation and law.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Parks Bureau is dedicated to providing a safe and drug free environment at all Los Angeles County Parks.
