Holiday Toy Drive For Local Kids in Need
Donated Toys Welcome at Any Los Angeles County Sheriff's Station
Each year, sworn and civilian employees, and volunteers, of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department donate thousands of toys to children and families during the holidays. Generous members of the public, businesses and charities also contribute annually and boost the number of toys, food, clothing, and personal item donations.
These toys and donations are given to local children in need, children who attend schools adopted by their local sheriff's station, jail or courthouse, and children of members of the United States Armed Forces serving our Country overseas.
Over 28,000 toys were collected during our 2013 Holiday Toy Drive and brightened the holiday lots of children! Food items including turkeys, canned, fresh and dried food; bread; and bottled water were donated. Much of the food was packaged together into nourishing food baskets and given to 262 families. Hundreds of blankets, hygiene kits, and articles of clothing; over 300 gift cards; and even batteries for toys were distributed to families in need of basic household items. Success came with everyone working together to ensure as many kids and families as possible received even a little something to bring joy to their season.
If you would like to participate this year, we invite you to bring a new, non-gift wrapped toy which has a value of at least $10.00 and is appropriate for children between the ages of one and 16 years. Bring your thoughtful gift to any of our patrol stations 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and leave them in the clearly-marked bins in the lobbies.
We ask that donations be made prior to Saturday, December 20, 2014, so they may be organized and distributed in time for the holiday, but we will gladly accept toys through the holiday.
Sheriff McDonnell said of the event, "Every child, no matter from which culture or social background, is excited to receive a toy. For many years, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department has collected and distributed toys to children in our areas. It is our joy -not only as employees, but as a company of fathers and mothers, uncles and aunts, and brothers and sisters - to see as many children as possible receive a toy, and see the looks of happiness and excitement on their faces. We appreciate the generous contributions made by members of the public and our own Sheriff's Department family to ensure the success of this annual event. This tradition of holiday sharing is just one more way we have of serving our residents of Los Angeles County."
