Temple Station Deputies arrested a North San Gabriel woman on suspicion of Elder Abuse. A rescue call was received at the residence with the victim stating she was injured in a fall. Deputies spoke to the victim who made no mention of abuse.
The victim, after being transported to a local hospital, confided in medical staff and a hospital social worker that she was the victim of abuse. Hospital staff called to report the abuse allegation. The victim said she did not initially report the abuse for fear of embarrassment, and not wanting to cause trouble.
The victim suffered physical injuries requiring her to be transported to the hospital. If not for the hospital trip the abuse would have been allowed to continue, perhaps with serious consequences.
Elder abuse encompasses many ways of causing harm to our seniors, including physical, emotional, or fiduciary abuse.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office says "Elder abuse is a rapidly growing criminal problem. As the baby boom generation grays and life expectancy increases, incidents of physical, emotional and financial abuse against elders are expected to grow unless steps are taken. Detection of abuse, neglect and fraud is critical."
