County Services Bureau Detectives recently investigated a case in which power tools were stolen from the Violence Intervention Program at County-USC Hospital. The theft was captured on video surveillance footage. Employees at the hospital identified the suspect as a co-worker employed at the hospital. CSB Detectives obtained and served a search warrant in an attempt to recover the stolen power tools; however the tools were not at the suspect's residence. Detectives subsequently located and contacted the suspect, who admitted to taking the tools and disclosed the location where he left them. The tools were recovered and the suspect was arrested. The suspect in this case had five prior theft-related convictions, including a "strike" conviction for first degree residential burglary.
