LISC and Metlife Foundation Honor Community-Police Partnerships
On November 14, 2012, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) , the Community Development Commission and Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles (CDC/HACoLA) and local community leaders were recognized for their innovation in promoting community safety through strategic economic development and creative partnerships.
In 1997, the Los Angeles County Community Development Foundation (CDF) and Community Development Commission and the Housing Authority of the County of Los Angeles began a partnership with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to combat gang activity and the drug dealing in the Maravilla housing complexes. A detailed program was set forth that included crime prevention, youth and adult intervention, and enforcement strategies. The plan was successful and a reduction of crime was felt. From program inception, violent, property and drug crimes declined from 239 to 41 at the Nueva Maravilla public housing site.
The awards were presented to:
Jennifer Blackwell-Trotter, Executive Director, CDF
Sean Rogan, Executive Director, CDC/HACoLA
John Voza, Lieutenant, LASD COPS Bureau.
